Nyawa United
The Nyawa United project started with establishing the girls' football team - Nyawa United.
Under a mango tree sheltering from the scorching African sun in January 2019, Annet came up with the idea of sending a girls' team to Norway Cup. After 3 1/2 years of unwavering dedication and hard work, we achieved our goal of sending the girls' team to the Norway Cup in 2022.
The team started with ten girls, born in 2004-2006, practicing with coach Kelvin every Saturday. Now, over 30 girls are active with playing football. Mobilising girls into sports has been our goal from the inception of the project.
Nyawa United
Establishing a girls' football team in a rural village in Zambia has been extremely rewarding, yet challenging. While there has been positive developments in terms of girls' participation in sports, there is still a long way to go.
The girls act as role models for other young females in their communities, both on and off the playing field.
Nyawa United is so much more than developing football skills. It is a space where the girls are thriving individually, boosting their self-esteem and enhancing other important life-skills such as togetherness, collaboration, decision-making, and communication-skills.
